HAWAII FINALE

one last post of hawaii pictures!
so the day we left for hawaii was extremely hectic. it ended up being the SAME day we signed for our house.
which was NOT ideal.
of course, life just works out that way--we bought hawaii tickets in april, and put an offer in on the house in july, and of course they ended up on the exact SAME day.
so we literally ran around with our heads cut off that day.
I actually signed the house papers in the front office of the high school during my lunch.
talk about stress. HA

so when we finally made it to the airport, ON TIME, with the papers signed, there was a big sigh of relief.
the picture above means so much to me--I can still feel that FINAL relief and much deserved excitement for hawaii!

in a 48 hour period, I had my first day of teaching for the year, signed papers on a house, and left for Hawaii. GAH
I was so stressed about which thing to be most excited for, that I had a hard time being excited for any of them!
but we were blessed when we ended up having a private jet from california to hawaii. HA
literally, there were like 12 people on the flight.
Most people took their own aisle, but tay and I were just giddy little children about our house, that we didn't want to sit on separate aisles.
we wanted to dream and plan and talk about how excited we were instead.
and we SLEPT like babies all cuddled up on that aisle, finally being able to relax.
the flight attendants thought we were "so in love" by not wanting our own aisles.
which...we are. but that wasn't why. we just couldn't stand to be apart when we were so excited about that dang house finally being OURS!
plus...we wanted to play cribbage...

so on our last day, we decided to drive up to see the volcanoes in kona.
one of the cool things about that particular island!
^see the smoke? so cool!...and so hot. see what I did there? HA^

^entering a lava tube cave! a cave literally created from flowing lava^

^inside the lava tubes with someone I lava ;)^

^notice the big crater full of smoke behind us!^

 okay, funny story.
so the first day, I must have gotten too much sun.
I don't really get sunburned, so I didn't notice, but the next morning I woke up and my forehead was SWOLLEN.
the weirdest thing.
we looked it up online and one of the main reasons was too much sun exposure--ding, ding ding!
so we went and grabbed a walmart hat for my poor little forehead.
the story needed to be documented...because it was just the weirdest thing I ever did see
(aaaand, tay and I may have had a freak-out moment thinking I had a sudden tumor at first...)

^and also this priceless picture!!^

dinner every night in the prettiest little town by the water was just so fun!
I mean, look how prettttyyyy!

and of course some good ol' go-pro pictures to end the hawaii posts!

we seriously had a blast, and I am STILL dreaming about this trip.
#takemeback
buuut this school year has turned out pretty great so far--my students are incredible this year.

black sand beach!

one of the days we were in hawaii was a little rainy, so we decided to head out to the black sand beach at waipio valley.
and of course, we went there in styyyyle:

it was AMAZING. one of the coolest things we did while we were there.
and the foggy weather made the scenery even more beautiful!
we were one of the few that took the treacherous hike all the way down to the beach.
going down is STRAIGHT downhill...which means going back up= BRUTAL. hahah

but here are some pictures of the black sand beach at waipio!

so we decided to try to hike to a waterfall off in the distance...MISTAKE
we climbed through like a mile of high rocks in SANDALS and then after a mile, we realized that there was no way we were getting all of the way there. it was still soooo far. HA
so instead, we took pictures on the rocks.

^and here's an example of the brutality of the rocks^
(and please notice taylor's bandaged toe--mentioned in previous post!)

^there's the waterfall---so far to go! hahah^

these next two pictures are in the coolest little spot where a river met the ocean!

^the crew^

^that beach!! the softest sand too!^

can life get more beautiful?
this day was seriously such a dream.

ONE last hawaii post! Sorry, it's taken me so long to get these pictures shared!
owning a house makes you BUSY
can't wait to share more of our home, too.

ohhh, and an unforgettable story coming later this week. HA

Hawaiian sunset!

another hawaii picture dump!

^dinner by the sea every night was so fun!^

one of our favorite activities was going down to the beach at night, and watching the locals surf.
the waves were HUGE the week we were there (even the locals couldn't believe it!), because of a hurricane coming in the next week.

^notice the "keep out" HA^

you just really can't beat a hawaiian sunset!

so taylor kind of had a rough week while we were in hawaii--but he was such a trooper!
first, he cut his toe on a rock.
then, he stepped on a sea porcupine...and we spent forever trying to get needles out of his toe!
then he got a little sunburned, and accidentally handed me conditioner instead of lotion to put on his skin, which resulted in a chemical burn on his skin. ....whoops. (in my defense...that's what he handed me!!)
and then he got a bee sting. HA

but all in all, the week was SO great.
such a fun way to wave goodbye to summer!
speaking of rough days, yesterday, taylor came into the house with paint all over his hands.
I looked closer and realized his phone was cradled in his hands!
He ran over to the sink while saying angrily, "I dropped a paint can on the driveway and it exploded.  Then, I went to pick it up and my phone fell out of my shirt pocket and straight into the paint!"
...let's just say, he wasn't too happy. HA
so I took his phone and started cleaning it out (p.s. he just dropped his phone the week before and it shattered like crazy).
I finally said, "Okay, tay...take a deep breath. We are going to drop off your phone to get cleaned and fixed, and then get you some yummy food.  Will that make today better?"
...and I was really hoping he would say yes because I reallyyyy didn't want to cook. HA

then when we went outside to get in the car, I started laughing SOOOO hard when I saw the spilled paint everywhere on the driveway. HAHAHAH it is seriously so funny now that his phone is nice and fixed.

one more hawaii picture dump to come!
