This boy.

This boy.
He can sing, play the piano, and play the guitar.
Even though he likes to keep these little tidbits hidden from the world.
He's mighty good.
And I LOVE more than anything listening to him sing and play.
I was lucky enough to sit and listen to him the other night.
Favorite thing ever.

I secretly took a video of him singing.
But he saw me recording, tackled me to the floor, and then deleted the video.
Dang.
Maybe next time?

Waking the monster.

Almost every night before I fall asleep, Taylor asks me to make sure to wake him up the next morning before I leave for work.
I leave for work at 7.
Taylor likes to get to work early, but he can pretty much get there whenever he wants.
(pretty spoiled, isn't he?)

Every morning when I try to wake him up, he does one of the following things:
1. puts on a puppy face and asks to sleep for a little bit longer
2. says, "I actually went to sleep really late last night, so I'm going to sleep in a little."
3. insists that he is awake but just laying in bed to stay warm
4. signs in ASL "sleep more please"
5. tells me really nice things like "you're beautiful, I love you, I'll miss you today," gives me a kiss  goodbye, and then stays in bed.

My reactions to these things (in respect to the order above):
1. Taylor's puppy face is killer. I can never say no to his puppy face.  Which is why I've told him he's only allowed to use it twice a month.
2. Well, if he went to sleep late, then he shouldn't wake up early.
3. Great, my job is done!
4. ASL is a straight way to my heart. And he knows it.
5. How can I pull him out of bed when he was just so sweet?

Since he doesn't really have to be to work early, I figure it's not a big deal to let him keep sleeping.

Then, when I see him later that evening he will always say,
"Kelli! I told you to wake me up this morning!"
"I tried! But you..." Then I proceed to tell him that he did one of the following five things.
Taylor: "I will do and say anything to stay in bed.  You HAVE to wake me up!"
So the next morning, I am determined to wake him up...until he does one of those five things.
Then I'm pudding.
And I leave him laying there, because he looks so cute!
(p.s. for #3, he does stay in bed, but he goes back to sleep)

This routine (trying to wake him up, failing, and then the same conversation every night) has been going on for awhile now.
The problem is that sometimes he really does end up staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning doing homework.  And I never know if he is telling the truth or not when I try waking him up.

Finally, last night, I had a brilliant idea.
I made a sign.
Green on one side.
Red on the other.
And I hung it by his side of the bed.
I told Taylor: "At night, before you go to sleep, you flip the sign to red or green. Green means "wake me up" and red means "let me sleep."
Whatever color I see when I wake up is the one I will follow...no matter what.

Don't laugh at the ghetto-ness of this sign.
I seriously made it in 2 minutes last night.
And the ripped red paper was the last piece of red paper I had, so I figured it would have to do.

I made sure to include an oath on the green side:
"I, Taylor Ray Gilbert, promise to love you no matter what means you resort to, in order to accomplish the above task."

This morning was green.
And man alive, I used every force I could to get that boy out of bed.
AND, I succeeded.
I think this sign thing will do its job just splendidly.

Thankful tree.

A couple of weeks ago, our ward passed around little paper leaves to everyone at church.
Everyone was supposed to write something they were thankful for on the leaf.
They put all of the leaves on a paper tree that hung on a wall in the church building.
Such a creative idea!
Last Sunday, I was reading all of the thankful leaves when I saw this one:

And guess whose leaf this was?
That's right.
Mr. Taylor Ray Gilbert.
It just made me smile.

Hey, Taylor?
Even though I didn't write your name on my leaf... (whoops)
I'm pretty dang grateful for you too. ;)

My new favorite quote.

I think I have a new favorite quote almost every week.
But I'm really loving the one that keeps running through my mind this week.
I feel as if it has such a deep and powerful meaning:

"There are three things that will never come back: the spent arrow, the spoken word, and the lost opportunity."

Trying to be extremely careful of what comes out of my mouth.
And trying to take advantage of every opportunity to serve during this Christmas season.

Triple date with matching wives

A couple of weeks ago, we had an FHE night with two great couples.
The whole night was so funny!

To START, all of the girls were wearing matching red pea-coats!
Complete accident!
And me and Mads were wearing the same shoes!
Funny, right?

Taylor's mom was nice enough to let us borrow her Acadia, so that all six of us could squeeze into one car.
The gas tank was almost on empty, so she gave us her card to fill up the tank.
So, first stop: gas station.

Taylor pulled up to the gas station and got out to pump the gas.
A few minutes later, he gets back in and pulls to another pump.
He had forgotten his Mom's pin and the pump locked because of too many incorrect guesses.
We all laughed, and then I handed Tay my card, and told him just to do it with our money.
Well...a few minutes later he gets back in and starts to drive to ANOTHER pump.
We all burst out laughing.
Poor Taylor just couldn't get those pins right ;)
So, finally at the third pump, I told my poor husband to stay in the car while I pumped the gas.
We definitely gave him a hard time about it. ;)

Tarahumara is all of the way in Midway (about a 35-45 minute drive).
About halfway there, Dusty asked Taylor, "Someone checked to make sure it's still open, right?"
Taylor confidently said, "Yeah, it's for sure still open."
Well...I'm sure you can guess how the next part of the story goes.
We finally got to the restaurant, and it was CLOSED.
After driving all of that way.
It was so ironic, we couldn't help but tease poor TayRay.

Luckily, Taylor's family used to have a cabin in Midway, so he knew another yummy spot nearby to fill our hungry tummies.
We ended up at Spin Cafe.
And man!
It was delicious!

We enjoyed some yummy food, and afterwards had gelato.
We sure do love good friends and good food.
Hoorah for an eventful and extremely fun night!

That dang husband.

Same night as this night.
Right before we left for our date, I wanted a picture of us.
Tay kept making funny faces right before the camera flashed.
Which resulted in me laughing and having a funky smile in the pictures.
We had to keep retaking them.
But that dang husband wouldn't stop making the funny faces.

So finally, I resorted to this.
Much better.

Behind.

I am way behind on blogging!
I have so many posts that I need to finish and publish.
I will try to get a few up tomorrow...or at least one. ha.
With this wonderful season upon us, Tay and I have been so busy jumping from one thing to the next.
This next week will be full of work and church Christmas parties.
PLUS, a Christmas play this weekend in ASL.
Love that Tay and I can share the love of this beautiful language.
Did you know we plan on teaching our kids ASL?
Can you just imagine little signing toddlers?
It will be adorable.
Ha!

Anyways, posts coming soon!
It is way past my bedtime.
So, goodnight!
And YAY for it being DECEMBER!
23 days until Christmas!!!!
And I already have a lot of presents purchased.
But only one so far for Mr. TayRay...purchased weeks ago, actually.
I have it secretly hidden away.
I think I found the most awesome hiding spot for gifts this year!
Pretty proud of my sneaky self.
