Married at 20.

I often get asked by my friends from home, "Why did you get married so young?"
I always just kind of smile, say something to make everyone laugh, and then the conversation shifts to something else.
The other day I thought about this frequent question, and I wondered why I rarely seem to respond with a real answer.

To my friends at BYU and the rest of the Mormon world, the concept of marrying young is nothing new.
Mormon boy meets Mormon girl. Boy and girl court, date, and fall in love. Usually within less than a year, the boy and girl are wed.

I feel like the concept of "courting, dating, and falling in love" is viewed as "old fashioned" and "outdated" to the rest of the world.
People seem to wonder, "What about the important step of "moving in together" before marriage?  What about the year-to-two-year long engagement?"
I often hear the metaphor related to moving in together: "When you buy clothes, you try them on before you wear them, don't you?  Why wouldn't you do the same with a boyfriend or girlfriend?" aka...move in first, see how it goes, and then maybe get engaged.

Good questions.

Back to the beginning: why do I rarely seem to respond to "Why did you get married so young?" with a real answer?
As I pondered this, I thought:
Maybe it's because the answer is too long.
Maybe it's because people will think I'm weird.
Maybe it's because it's just too complicated to explain.
Maybe it's because people just won't understand.
Maybe it's because I'm Mormon.

But then I realized, the answer isn't long and it isn't complicated.
And it's not just because I'm Mormon.
The answer is easy, simple, and true.
Why did I get married so young?

Because I fell in love with a good man.  A man who loved me back with his whole heart.  And we both wanted to live this life together.

There was no need to "try on the clothes before buying them."
In fact, there was no try.
We weren't going to try to make our relationship or our marriage work.
We were going to make it work.
There is no try in love.
There is just love

I know mine and Taylor's quick courting and fast engagement was a shock to the rest of the world.
People often asked me, "Why are you getting married!?" "Are you sure you know what you're doing!?"
But frankly, time didn't matter.
Not to us.
We knew we loved each other.
We knew we were committed to each other.
And to us, commitment meant something much more than just "trying this out".

Commitment meant giving our whole hearts and our whole energy into a love that we cherished.

No, we did not move in together before we were married.
No, we did not even sleep together before we were married.
No, we did not have a two year engagement.

Yes, we got married young.
Yes, we knew what we were doing.
Yes, it's going to last forever.

Dear world: pure and true love still exists. It's still possible to have a beautiful and honest marriage.
Maybe if the world realized there was no try in love, maybe, just maybe, there would be less broken homes, less broken families, and less broken hearts.

Why did I get married young?
The answer is simple.
The answer is easy.
And the answer is true.

Because I fell in love with a good man.  A man who loved me back with his whole heart.  And we both wanted to live this life together.

Wednesday night love and a splendid Thursday morning

Last night, the sibs and I went to Cory and Kirsten's wedding reception.
(We grew up with Cory in Sacramento)
And my goodness, this reception was beautiful!
And the couple was glowing with love.

Have you ever met a couple and just thought, "Oh my, they are absolutely perfect for each other!"
Well, that was what was on my mind the whole night.
And I'm sure it was on everyone else's too.
They are each other's match. No doubt about it!

I love weddings. I love happiness. I love love.

And here's the happy couple:

My good friends from high school, Anja (sister of the groom) and Danni, came out for the wedding. It was SO fun seeing them. Love these girls!
Here's Dan holding baby Jack. Anja was making a face to show how she feels about babies...but my phone camera didn't capture it too well :/
The whole night felt like a small Sacramento reunion
I loved every second!

And Wednesday night turned into an awesome Thursday morning.
After my morning run, I got to come home to this sweet babe:
M, T & J spent the night last night since they are all moved out of their apartment and off to California in just a few short days.  I loved holding the babes this morning and watching his funny little movements. I am going to miss little J so much!

Then, I treated myself to this:
A double chocolatey chip! My very favorite.

Dear Thursday:
You've started out great.
And I know you will end great.
Why?
Because you and I will be at H&M tonight.
Enough said.

Back!

Ha, my husband is so sweet to blog while I was gone!
I'm back from my week at girls camp!
I had a blast with all of the girls.
It was a little weird being there as a leader and not as a participant.
Being there reminded me of all of my wonderful memories at girls camp growing up.
I love girls camp!
But I'm also so happy to be home to a shower, bed, and a cute husband. :)

Little bit of reminiscing here:
This is a picture from four years ago of the last time I was at girls camp.

So many good times!
Now moving on to a relaxing rest of the weekend with the very much missed hubby.

Manti

Over the weekend, Taylor and I were able to go with my family to the Manti Temple.
The drive through the canyons was absolutely beautiful.
But still nothing compared to the beauty of the temple...both inside and out.
It was the 3rd temple built!  Built back in 1888.

We were even lucky enough to be able to go look at the spiral staircase inside.
There are only three staircases like it in the world. And two are inside this temple!
Engineers today can't figure out how the stairs were made (they are very intricate with hardly any support). They were absolutely breath-taking!

Man alive...look at this beautiful building!

We were trying to figure out how tall the doors were, so my dad made Tay go stand next to them ;)

The clouds were amazing! And the whole day was lovely.
We had such a fun time with my family this past week.
I wish I had taken more photos of the gang together...oh well.
Memories will have to suffice. :)

(to learn more about why we have temples, take a look at this video.)

A beautiful love.

Last weekend, I had the wonderful privilege of going to my dear friend's wedding.
The sealing was so beautiful.
And so was the couple.
They were absolutely glowing with love.

It brought back memories of my own wonderful day.
And made me realize (once again) how grateful I am for my eternal marriage.
I get to be with my husband (and future children!) FOREVER! The thought makes me giddy.
So grateful for this knowledge.

Here are some pictures from Chelsey and Taylor's beautiful day:

I absolutely LOVE outdoor receptions (hence the fact that I had a backyard reception).  I think they are so naturally beautiful and romantic.  And this one was no exception:

Best wishes to the beautiful newlyweds!
Love you both!
xoxo

Nice to meet you, Seth!

Seth is home!  It was such a great reunion for the Gilbert family.  And such a sweet moment!  We have been having so much fun with the family!  It was my first time meeting Seth...and I already know we'll be buds!  Favorite Gilbert brother-in-law? I think Seth is the winner. ;) He is a gem...and is already keeping us laughing!  Taylor and Seth are finally back together after FOUR years of being apart (their missions overlapped) and watching them together just makes my heart happy :). Here are a few pictures to share (and a tender video of the reunion!).

Our signs!

The back of our signs. Can you figure out what mine means?  Regan's sign cracks me up.

Father and son :)

Mama and Papa G are so happy!!

The boys!

The Gilbert family is FINALLY all together again!!

I love this family!!

After picking Seth up from the airport, we stopped at Jason's Deli for lunch!

There were a lot of missionaries coming home at the same time as Seth.  The Salt Lake Airport was packed with friends and family anxiously waiting to see their beloved missionaries.  It was so sweet, the whole crowd cheered so loud for EVERY elder...whether it was their elder or not.  Watch for Mama G running to hug Seth...and of course, my favorite part: Regan's jump into Seth's arms!

Let's play!

Taylor and I had an awesome Friday night.  We were invited on a quadruple date with some awesome couples. The hosts, Brody and Jenny, always cook the best food ever.  On the menu for the date?  Crepes! We love crepes!  First, we had savory crepes.  With a choice of ham, turkey, cheese, avocados, tomatoes, and more!  The best part?  We all sat on pillows on the floor around the grills.  We ate to our hearts content!  Then, came my favorite part: desert crepes!  Nutella, strawberries, bananas, whipped cream galore!  There were lots of laughs and good times around.

To end the night, we played our Mormon version of beer pong: root beer pong!  Taylor and I made it to the final round, but alas, did not come out the victors.  I was soooo full and ready to lose all of my crepes on the last round, so my good man was such a gent and drank all of my cups that round.  Thanks, babe. :)  I did feel a little guilty when he had to sit outside for 10 minutes afterwards to keep himself from throwing up.

Taylor and I had to leave the festivities early, because I had a big test in the morning, but we sure had a good time. What a great night!  I'm excited for what the rest of the weekend has in store for us.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well!

What a wonderful weekend!

Hello, again!  Sorry for the late post!  Taylor and I had such a great weekend.  It was exhausting, but everything about it was wonderful.

On Friday, Taylor had two basketball games.  The final game determined which team would take first place in the championship.  His team won second place, with a final score of 72 to 74.  Such a close game! Once again, Tay played an awesome game.

My man in action...#20.

On Saturday, Taylor and I had the opportunity to go to Taylor's aunt and uncle's sealing in the Mount Timpanogos temple.  They were sealed for time and all eternity, and then were able to be sealed to their three year old doll, Brooklyn.  It was such a sweet experience.  Not a dry eye in the room.  I am so grateful for temples and for eternal families.  What a blessing.  Click here to learn more about eternal families.

With a lot of the Gilbert clan in town, we spent the majority of the rest of the weekend visiting with family.

Last Sunday, Regan locked me in her closet for a good 40 minutes. And since her room is in the back of the house, no one could hear me yelling for help. Taylor and I planned for revenge. Last night, right before she went to bed, I snuck into her closet and quietly waited in there for about 30 minutes. Taylor sent her a scary text to set the mood. Then, when she least expected it, I jumped out of the closet and scared her. She was scared to tears. I think she'll think twice about locking me in the closet again. Revenge is sweet. :)

Another highlight?  We got to Facetime with my parents and siblings in California last night.  It was so fun.  I love modern technology!
